Oddly enough, one of the best games of the week came from two of the worst teams in the entire league in what had been dubbed the toilet bowl. Questions about Eberflus and the Bears are running rampant and we have a classic “will they won’t they” when it comes to trading away Justin Fields. Looking ahead to week 5, bye weeks are kicking in so now is the chance to start sneaking some wins in. That starts with the waiver wire. Admittedly this isn’t an exciting week but here are my waiver wire targets heading into week 5.

Waiver Wire Targets:

Genius Pick of the Week

Romeo Doubs (Rostered in 33.9% of ESPN leagues)

A repeat from last week’s list, Doubs showed once again why he needs to be on rosters. Against Detroit, Doubs saw a season high 13 targets (Even with Christian Watson returning) and turned that into 9 catches for 95 yards. Love clearly loves (pun intended) throwing to this guy. Add Doubs where you can.

Jameson Williams (Rostered in 16.3% of ESPN leagues)

Originally slated to be suspended for the first six games of the season, Williams has been officially reinstated by the NFL. The Lions currently average 8th in passing yards per game so the former Alabama standout should provide another solid option for QB Jared Goff. He also doesn’t face much competition after St. Brown. It may take him a few games to get reacclimated but he is worth a stash option on your bench.

Joshua Palmer (Rostered in 47% of ESPN leagues)

Last week I had both Palmer and Johnston as waiver wire targets. Through one game without Mike Williams, it looks like Palmer is the next man up. Palmer was targeted 8 times on the day to Johnston’s 3 and managed to reel in 3 targets for 77 yards. Going into the bye week, the 2022 Chargers target leader is not the most attractive waiver wire pickup but his potential target share is encouraging.

Marvin Mims (Rostered in 17.3% of ESPN leagues)

I debated whether or not to include Mims on this list or not. He is firmly cemented behind Courtland Sutton and Jerry Juedy on the depth chart and has a pretty low target share only seeing more than 2 targets so far in a loss to the Dolphins. However, every time Mims touches the ball it is electric. The Broncos seem to be figuring out their offensive struggles ever so slowly and the passing attack looked alive in a big comeback against the Bears. Mims only has big play potential as of right now but the flashes seen so far are promising in the event of an injury to Sutton or Jeudy. Stash for now.

Jake Ferguson (Rostered in 26.4% of ESPN leagues)

So far Ferguson has been targeted 7 times in all but one game of the season. Even in that lone 4 target performance he reeled in a touchdown. Clearly Dak likes this guy and considers him a reliable target. The tight end position is usually feast or famine in fantasy football so add this guy based on his high target rate and increasing role in the Cowboys offense.

Tyjae Spears (Rostered in 20.2% of ESPN leagues

Spears remains a sneaky pickup behind King Henry. The Titans continue to show a willingness to try and get Spears involved in both the rushing and passing attack. Consider Spears an elite handcuff moving forward and definitely worth a stash on your bench.

Sam Howell (Rostered in 8.9% of ESPN leagues)

I had Howell on my week 3 waiver wire targets list and after a rough week against the Bills, he went largely unnoticed on waivers. However, a bounce back performance against the Eagles showed he has the potential to thrive as a fantasy QB when the matchup is right. A favorable upcoming three game stretch (Chicago, Atlanta, New York Giants) increases his addability going into week 5. For those missing a QB after injuries to Kenny Pickett, Jimmy G and Matthew Stafford, Howell presents as a good fill-in option. Certainly a great pickup for 2 QB leagues.

Joshua Dobbs (Rostered in 2.1% of ESPN leagues)

Surprisingly, Dobbs put up a pretty good performance (23.4 points) against a stout 49ers defense. Outside of a rough week one, Dobbs has been turnover proof and has turned out 3 solid fantasy outings. Similar to Howell’s outlook, Dobbs stands to be a good injury fill in and a must add in 2 QB leagues.
