Waiver Wire Targets:
Tyler Allgeier (Rostered in 35.8% of ESPN leagues)
Allgeier presents as one of the top tier handcuff options in the NFL and should at least be riding your bench. This week’s matchup against the Dolphins could see the Falcons get out ahead early which would make sense for the Falcons to rely more on Allgeier instead of risking Bijan Robinson. This Dolphins team is terrible and has one of the worst run defenses across the league.
Tez Johnson (Rostered in 16.2% of ESPN leagues) Genius Pick of the Week
Tez Johnson was a popular pick last week who saw his rostership rise from 0.7% to 16.2%. In my week 7 list, I highlighted Johnson as a viable pickup due to the injuries the Bucs offense was facing at the time. After Monday nights loss to the Lions, that is still true this week and beyond. Mike Evans is set to miss a majority of the regular season with a broken collarbone opening the door for Johnson. It is also worth mentioning Egbuka is dealing with a hamstring injury and Godwin is still hurt as well. With a more involved role in the offense Johnson saw 9 targets which he turned into 4 catches for 58 yards and a touchdown. Granted the Bucs were behind all game so the script was pass happy but I like the extra looks to Johnson. Scoop this guy up ASAP.
Oronde Gadsden II (Rostered in 2.4% of ESPN leagues)
Gadsden has been popping off these past 2 weeks. In that time he has seen 17 targets! Against the Colts, Gadsden saw 9 targets which he turned into 7 catches for a whopping 164 yards and a touchdown. The rookie seems to be finding his footing within this offense and is building a relationship with Herbert. I’m riding the hot hand headed into week 8.
Cade Otton (Rostered in 29.7% of ESPN leagues)
My week 7 Genius Pick of the Week, Otton put up solid numbers against the Lions. I don’t mean to toot my own horn but it sure is nice to see these hit. As predicted, Otton was involved heavily in the passing game. He led the team in receptions (7) and receiving yards (65) and was tied for 2nd in targets. A mix game script and WR injuries were responsible. Similar to Tez Johnson above, Otton stands to benefit from the Mike Evans and Chris Godwin injuries. As long as the wide receiver room remains banged up, look to Ottone to shoulder some of the offensive burden.
Noah Fant (Rostered in 2.4% of ESPN leagues)
Fant had a pretty solid week against the Steelers putting up 14.4 fantasy points against the Steelers. While he only had 4 targets, he managed to pull in all 4. The real appeal for me here is the addition of Joe Flacco to this offense. Flacco certainly offers a higher level of passing than Chase Brown and most recently was providing Browns tight ends a fair amount of targets. Fant’s case only increases now that Mike Gesicki is headed to IR. With a hard hitting BYE week, Fant could be your guy at the tight end spot should you miss out on Gadsden or Otton.
Jaxon Dart (Rostered in 43.3% of ESPN leagues)
Highlighted in last week’s list, Dart had an absolute field day against the vaunted Broncos defense. Even in the tough loss, Dart threw for 283 and 3 touchdowns while adding 11 yards and a touchdown on the ground. I thought for sure Dart would have a tougher time against this defense but I was proved wrong again. Up next is an Eagles defense that Dart performed well against in week 6. Dart should not be on waivers.
Aaron Rodgers (Rostered in 27.6% of ESPN leagues)
With 6 teams on a BYE week in week 8 and a couple of QB injuries floating around, Aaron Rodgers is looking quite good on waivers. I don’t have much that you probably don’t already know. Rodgers can still sling the rock, however, he has not eclipsed 250 yards this season. And outside of DK Metcalf, there is not a lot to be desired from the Steelers pass catching options. Don’t let that discourage you though as old man Rodgers has an upcoming revenge game against the Green Bay Packers that could provide a spark QB needy fantasy managers could use as a BYE week fill in.
Joe Flacco (Rostered in 5% of ESPN leagues)
It’s crazy what a change of scenery and a Ferrari at the wide receiver position can do for a QB. Flacco has be on one since the Browns traded him within the division. With a rough BYE week ahead, I’m looking at Flacco as well as the QBs listed above to hold me over. The Jets are absolutely abysmal priming Flacco for another solid outing.
